My name is Sean Richards and I am a Steel Drum player currently residing in Sugar Land, Texas. I have resided in Texas for almost ten years, but my native island is Trinidad and Tobago, the island where the steel drum was originated.
Over the years I’ve played with International Bands all over the world including the United States, England, Africa and The Caribbean. I’ve performed at various locations such as: Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, The United Nations, The Apollo Theatre, The International Festival (Houston), Tommy Bahamas (The Woodlands), as well as other local community events. In addition, I have performed on some of the most popular Cruise lines such as Carnival, Norwegian, Crown, Cunard and Commodore. As a tutor, I have taught and demonstrated the steel drum at neighboring schools and in private homes. In addition, I currently perform for private parties, weddings, restaurants, banquets, and trade shows. I have enclosed for your convenience a list of my repertoire.
If you’re wondering how a one man band is possible, I select certain tunes and program each note into a sequencer, then while playing live I use my programmed songs as backup tracks for accompaniment.
