Marcell Murphy
Marcell Murphy is a poet, spoken word artist and writer from the Houston area.
He has been writhing and performing in for a number of years and has performed
all over the United States, Canada and Jamaica.
He was one of the founding members of the Houston Poetry Slam Team that places in the top ten at the National Poetry slam in 2002 and he has placed in the top 10 at the Individual World Poetry Slam Championships in 2004. He has been a featured artist on
KPFT 90.1, KTSU 90.9 and has had a feature spot in ABC 13 Crossroads Television show
He was the founder of the Houston Chapter of the Black Out Arts Collective, a grassroots coalition of artists, activists and educators working to empower communities of color through the arts. He has recited everywhere from Prisons and Halfway Houses to
Open mic's and showcases all over the United States and has opened up for Legendary Poets from Muta Baruka to the legendary Amiri Baraka
Currently he lives in Houston and is can be seen at a number of different open mic's in Houston is currently the Poetry Slammaster of the Houston (H-town) Poetry slam which will be traveling to the National Poetry Slam Championships in 2008 in Madison Wisconsin.
