Wyndnwyre

 Listen to Banish Misfortune

Wyndnwyre performs traditional instrumental and vocal music from the Celtic countries of Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The band performs at festivals, concerts, and private engagements throughout the Southwest.

Bill Klecka on hammer dulcimer, guitar, cittern, bouzouki, mandolin and vocals. Bill has been performing Bluegrass and Celtic music in Texas for the past 30 years. Bill founded the band 25 years ago and writes many of the band's original tunes. His dulcimer playing has a delicacy rarely heard on this ancient instrument.

The dulcimer is known in Persia and Kashmir as the Santouri. It was brought to Europe in the Middle ages and  came to America with immigrants in the 19th century.

Mark Johnson on Irish flute, low whistle and tin whistles, guitar, percussion and vocals. Mark has been with the band since 1985. Mark's flute playing soars in a class of it's own and his improvisational guitar accompaniment adds a driving force to the band's sound.

The Irish flute, made of ebony, was the flute played by musicians in Europe before the silver Boehm system flute was invented mid-19th century. Its unique mellow sound is still a favorite in Irish traditional music.

Therese Honey on Celtic harp and music history. Therese joined the band in 1990. She has performed at the Carolan Harp Festival in Co. Roscommon, Ireland. With more than 30 years experience, Therese travels to festivals across the United States both performing and teaching. Therese plays Celtic tunes with rhythmic dexterity and grace.

The Harp, the symbol of Ireland and the instrument of the ancient bards, has a rich tradition throughout the Celtic countries.
